The Buenos Aires Premier Padel P1 moved decisively into its final stages on Thursday, with packed stands, rising tension across Parque Roca, and the clearest indication yet that the tournament is heading towards a weekend dominated by the sport’s biggest names. As the Round of 16 unfolded, the world’s top pairs largely imposed their authority, while Delfina Brea and Gemma Triay delivered one of the standout performances of the day in their long-awaited Buenos Aires debut.

The atmosphere once again became one of the defining elements of the event. Every court carried noise, pressure, and expectation, but few matches captured it better than the clash on Court 2 between Jon Sanz and Jon Nieto against local favourites Juan Tello and Maxi Arce. The Spanish pair eventually prevailed 7-5, 6-1, though the encounter was repeatedly paused as the crowd noise reached extraordinary levels, underlining the unique intensity of padel in Argentina.

Another of the day’s major talking points arrived on Court 3, where Martín Di Nenno and Javi González suffered a surprise defeat against Javier García and Javier Jiménez Casas, one of the few results that broke the expected script of the tournament’s leading contenders advancing comfortably.

Off the court, the tournament continued to attract major figures from Argentine sport and culture. Singer Milo J attended the event and met Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello, while football icons Carlos Tevez and Sebastián Driussi also made appearances at Parque Roca, reinforcing the tournament’s growing cultural impact beyond padel itself.

On Center Court, the action delivered a relentless sequence of statement victories. Ariana Sánchez and Andrea Ustero swept past Jessica Castelló and Lorena Rufo 6-1, 6-1, while Paula Josemaría and Bea González were equally dominant in a 6-1, 6-2 win over Marta Talaván and Sofía Saiz.

The spotlight, however, was firmly on Brea and Triay. Playing together in Argentina for the first time since becoming the world No.1 pair, they looked fully in control from the opening games, defeating Araceli Martínez and Lucía Sainz 6-1, 6-3 with a performance built on aggressive positioning and relentless tempo. The pair were later confirmed into the semi-finals following the withdrawal of Agueda Pérez and Lucía Martínez due to injury.

In the men’s draw, the top contenders also continued their march. Coello and Tapia defeated Edu Alonso and Aimar Goñi 6-3, 6-3 in another composed display, while Franco Stupaczuk and Miguel Yanguas overpowered Alonso Rodríguez and Juan Ignacio De Pascual 6-1, 6-2. Leandro Augsburger and Juan Lebrón maintained their strong momentum with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Álex Ruiz and Juanlu Esbrí.

The night session closed with another emphatic statement from Federico Chingotto and Alejandro Galán, who dismantled Javier Barahona and Gonzalo Alfonso 6-1, 6-1 to secure their place in the quarter-finals.

Friday now brings the tournament fully onto Center Court, with every quarter-final match in both draws scheduled at Parque Roca. With the favourites advancing, the atmosphere intensifying, and the weekend approaching, Buenos Aires is rapidly shaping into one of the defining stops of the season.
