A stellar week of padel came to a close at the CUPRA Rotterdam Premier Padel P2, with Ariana Sánchez and Andrea Ustero, and Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia lifting the title in front of more than 9,110 spectators who filled the stands at Ahoy Rotterdam on Sunday. The multi-purpose venue, hosting the tournament for the third time, welcomed more than 42,600 spectators throughout the week.
On court, Ari Sánchez celebrated the 100th final of her career by claiming the title alongside Andrea Ustero after a superb victory. The Catalan duo are now the pair to beat after securing their second consecutive title — Rotterdam P2 and Paris Major — and their fourth as a partnership.
On the men’s side, the Golden Boys claimed their tenth title of the season, defeating Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz in straight sets. Sanz and ‘Stupa’ leave the Netherlands with their heads held high, knowing they will enter the next two tournaments of the European swing — Germany P2 and Milano P1 — as the No. 4 seeds.
Sánchez-Ustero close in on No. 2
Ari and Andrea capped a perfect week with a commanding victory over No. 2 seeds Bea González and Paula Josemaría, having previously defeated the world No. 1s, Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea, in the semi-finals.
Sánchez and Josemaría, former partners who spent two seasons at the top of the rankings and won 44 titles together, met again in a final four months after the Valladolid P2 final, which went Bea and Paula’s way. This time, Ari Sánchez controlled the tempo of the match, while Ustero took charge of the decisive points in the aerial game as they secured a 6-4, 6-4 victory in one hour and 41 minutes.
It was their second consecutive title after their triumph at Roland-Garros a few weeks ago, and their fourth as a partnership in 2026. With this victory, both players significantly close the gap to their rivals in the FIP Ranking, giving them the chance to challenge for the No. 2 spot during the remainder of the European swing of the Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour.
“I think we played a very complete tournament, in which we had to beat the No. 1 and No. 2 pairs. We have been working hard to win these kinds of matches and reach the level we are reaching, so I’m very happy. Now it’s time to think about giving it our all next week in Germany,” said Ustero.
“I’m super happy. Before stepping onto the court, we knew we had to play an almost perfect match. We had set ourselves the challenge of winning two finals in a row, something we had never achieved before, and we’re very happy to have done it. I think we’re in a very good moment and finding the consistency we had been looking for. I also want to congratulate Andrea, who knew how to fight through the difficult moments and overcome them to close out the match and win the title,” said Sánchez.
Tapia-Coello complete Rotterdam hat-trick
The No. 1 seeds will remain unbeaten in the Netherlands for at least another season after defeating Stupaczuk-Sanz in the final. The Spanish-Argentine pair produced brilliant padel throughout the week, overcoming other title contenders such as No. 2 seeds Ale Galán and Fede Chingotto in the quarter-finals, and No. 6 seeds Mike Yanguas and Coki Nieto in the semi-finals.
The Golden Boys claimed their third consecutive title in the Dutch city with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in one hour and nine minutes. The win extends their lead over Chingalán in the FIP Race to 1,780 points, bringing them closer to finishing the season as world No. 1s for a fourth consecutive year.
For Stupa, meanwhile, the fight for a title continues through the remainder of the season. Winning one would make him the only Premier Padel player, alongside Sanyo Gutiérrez and Paquito Navarro, to have lifted a title in each of the last ten seasons.
“I want to congratulate Jon, Franco and their team. They are a great pair and are doing things very well. We knew we had to show our best level to win the final. We had to find solutions to come back and win after a great start from our opponents,” said Coello.
“We work week by week to achieve results. It was a victory that we had to build as the match went on, and we really value it because of our ability to bounce back. I’m very happy. Now it’s time to celebrate a little, and from tomorrow, start thinking about the next tournaments in Europe,” said Tapia.
Following these thrilling finals, the action continues on the Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour, which heads to Düsseldorf next week for the Germany P2. After its conclusion on Sunday, October 11, the tour will travel to Milan’s Allianz Cloud for another P1 event, before entering the final phase of the season with the Kuwait and Mexico Majors, the Dubai P1 and the Tour Finals in Barcelona.
