The CUPRA Rotterdam Premier Padel P2 will be remembered by Ari Sánchez as the one where she reached her 100th final as a professional player. The Spanish star once again put on a masterclass alongside Andrea Ustero to add this milestone to her career, and on Sunday they will battle for their second consecutive title against Perlamita.
Meanwhile, Agustín Tapia - Arturo Coello remain the only survivors among the top four seeds and will face Franco Stupaczuk - Jon Sanz, who secured their status No. 4 seeds status from the Milan P1 onwards with their victory over Mike Yanguas - Coki Nieto.
Sánchez Joins the 100-Final Club
The Catalan player became the youngest to reach 100 finals. At 29, she joins a club that also includes Gemma Triay and Alejandra Salazar, the only other active players to have reached and surpassed that figure.
Sánchez achieved the feat with an impressive performance alongside the young Ustero, who produced a string of winners with her smash. Together, they defeated the world No. 1s, Gemma Triay - Delfi Brea, who had beaten them in their previous three encounters in Bordeaux P2, London P1 and Madrid P1.
“I’m really happy to reach my 100th final, but I’m not thinking about it. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to play padel, to make a living doing what I love most, and I’m enjoying this year so much with Andrea. I’m super happy to be playing in another final,” Magic Ari said after sealing a 6-2, 6-3 victory in one hour and 19 minutes.
Their title opponents on Sunday will be Bea González - Paula Josemaría (#2), who comfortably defeated Martina Calvo - Claudia Fernández (#4) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Perlamita arrived in Rotterdam after dealing with a tough quarter-final defeat at the Paris Major, and they will now look to claim their seventh title of the season to close the gap on the world No. 1s in the FIP Race.
Stupaczuk - Sanz Win the Battle for the Top Four
A repeat of the FIP Gold Belgrade final from a few weeks ago once again went the way of Stupaczuk - Sanz, who produced a dominant victory over Yanguas - Nieto, their respective former partners.
The pair coached by Cristian Arias gave their opponents little opportunity in Rotterdam, sealing a 6-0, 6-4 victory in one hour and 19 minutes. As a result, they will enter the final two tournaments of the Premier Padel European swing — Germany P2 and Milan P1 — as the Tour’s No. 4 seeds.
On Sunday, Stupaczuk - Sanz will play their first Premier Padel final as a team against Tapia - Coello, who overcame Lucas Campagnolo - Momo González in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. Following Chingalán’s quarter-final exit, the Golden Boys could extend their lead over their closest rivals in the FIP Race by 1,020 points if they lift the trophy in Rotterdam.
“We’re building a great team. We’re back in another final after the FIP Platinum final in Lyon last week… we like playing on Sundays! We have to keep working, and hopefully this victory is the start of something really big,” Stupa said after the match.
