The Betclic Bordeaux Premier Padel P2 2026 round of 32 brought an end to the home challenge, with one notable exception: Alix Collombon. France’s best player battled through alongside Ksenia Sharifova to claim a hard-fought win over Jana Montes and Lucía Sainz – who held three match points – booking their place in the Round of 16 with a 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 victory.

Collombon now carries local hopes into the next stage as the Patinoire de Mériadeck is set to welcome the tournament’s top names on Thursday from 10:00, with the top four men’s seeds and all eight seeded pairs in the women’s draw entering the competition.

French hopes will not include Léa Godallier, after she and Argentina’s Daiara Valenzuela were beaten 6-3, 7-5 by Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga. There was also disappointment in the men’s draw for the home players, as Boronad-Fonteny were defeated 6-0, 6-2 by Chozas-Libaak, while Dylan Guichard and Belgium’s Clément Geens fell 6-4, 6-4 to Jairo Bautista and Íñigo Jofre.

FAVOURITES MAKE THEIR MOVE

Following the expected script, almost all favourites safely negotiated their Round of 32 encounters. Among them, Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz (#5) delivered a convincing performance to see off Diestro-Piotto 6-3, 6-2. Even more dominant were Paquito Navarro and Martín Di Nenno (#6) in their commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory over García-Lijó.

Javi Leal and Fran Guerrero (#7) had to come from behind to beat Tolito Aguirre and Rama Valenzuela 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, while Momo González and Lucas Campagnolo (#8) came through a demanding contest against Italy’s Abbate-Montiel in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4.

Elsewhere, Juan Tello and Maxi Arce overcame Belluati-Sager 6-2, 6-7, 6-4, Maxi Sánchez and Xisco Gil defeated Collado-Hernández 6-1, 6-4, Enzo Jensen and David Gala beat Mouriño-Quílez 7-6, 6-1, and Mario Ortega and Víctor Ruiz secured a 7-6, 7-6 victory over Alfonso-Barahona.

WOMEN’S DRAW FOLLOWS THE EXPECTED PATTERN

There were no major surprises in the women’s Round of 32 either. Alongside victories for Caldera-Goenaga and Collombon-Sharifova, Aranza Osoro and Victoria Iglesias came from a set down to beat Barrera-Velasco 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, while Giulia Dal Pozzo and Nuria Rodríguez edged past Luján-Martínez 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. Jessica Castelló and Marta Talaván also progressed after a 6-1, 7-6 win over Martínez-Pérez.

Also securing places in the Round of 16 were Lorena Rufo and Sofía Saiz (7-6, 0-6, 7-5 vs Borrero-Marchetti), Noa Cánovas and Laia Rodríguez (6-7, 6-3, 6-0 vs Ferreyra-Peralta) and Marta Caparrós and Julieta Bidahorria (6-2, 6-2 vs Fassio-Kurz).
